Characteristics of the Wittner chinrest for violin

Made in Germany, this chinrest made of high technology composite materials display a beautiful finish. Its sober black colour will match with the fittings of your violin.

Hypoallergenic

Have you ever suffered from bruises in the contact area between your skin and the chinrest? This is due to the exotic wood of the chinrests. They are highly irritating and too long contact can provoke epidermic reactions, such as red spots, itching… Also known as violin hickeys.

As for the Wittner chinrest, its surface is very soft and hypoallergenic. Thanks to granular design, this chinrest has a matte finish and does not stick to the skin.

Side or centered mounting?

The chinrest is available in two versions: centered or side mounting. Both models are safely clamped onto the rib garland.

How to install your chinrest

There isa matching screwdriver included with the Wittner chinrest for violin. This way, you can easily install it: since the feet can be moved each at a time, you do not need to pay attention to how parallel they are.

First and foremost, you need to pay attention to the space where to fit the cork pads without forcing your instrument. To fit the chinrest, just put the feet inside the notches. Once it is done, gently screw each of them with the screwdriver.

Moreover, be careful that your chinrest is at the right angle compared to the tailpiece, and that it does not interfere with your setup.

I advise you not to force too much with the screwdriver. You just need as much pressure as to keep the chinrest firmly in place. Should you tighten it too much, you could disturb the sound of your instrument and warp it.

What your violin-maker thinks of the Wittner chinrest for violin

Thanks to this chinrest, many violinists are free from terrible irritations, and can play for hours. It is available in many sizes, so any musician with this issue can try this solution, even the youngest ones.

Finally, should you choose between the side or centered mounting, I recommend that you go for the second one if you have never tried it. In many cases, it enables you to have a more comfortable position. Of course, this depends on each morphology, habits, and preferences.
