Characteristics of the Passion-Tradition Maître baroque violin

[pullquote align=”center”]

Through their competences and knowledge built over years of practice, a Maître is an artist or a craftsman that truly masters his expertise. Their works of art are the embodiment of their inspiration. They often take part in sharing and teaching their skills.

First and foremost, the violins of the Passion-Tradition Maître series are splendid violins. Based on the templates of the famous violin-makers of Cremona, these instruments are the legacy of techniques from long ago. Only the most experienced craftsmen of the workshop dedicate their skills to the making of these remarkable pieces. They select the best woods and carve them carefully to design the shape of the instrument. They are made of gorgeous flame maple boards with beautiful spruce fronts. Moreover these woods have dried in the open air for more than 10 years before being used.

The oil varnish is beautifully made after the ancient technique. It is applied and then worked by hand from A to Z. Every part of the finish has a unique style depending on the maker.

The fingerboard and the tailpiece are both of inlaid maple. The pegs are of jujube.

Violin with a baroque setup

On a baroque setup, I can’t offer as many options as for modern violins. Nevertheless, I use accurate copies of baroque bridges by Milo Stamm, as well as the great soundposts by Andreas Pahler.

This violin is fitted with Pirastro‘s la Chorda gut-strings. Since I can make you a customised instrument, feel free to ask me for specific strings, with or without wound.

Why should I choose this baroque violin?

First of all, finding a violin with a complete baroque setup is no easy feat. The Passion-Tradition baroque instruments I offer all have a baroque neck, bass barr, and string break angle. Besides, their design are very close to the archings and shapes of ancient violins. Unlike many modern violins, these instruments are much more in the baroque style. All in all, be it in terms of playability, sound, or playing experience, these violins are the best to play the repertoire of that period.

The advantages of the baroque violin

  • First and foremost, this violin was entirely handmade in the baroque style so as to play early pieces of music.
  • Second, not only are the woods selected and then seasoned for more than 10 years, but they’re also very stable and sustainable.
  • Besides, I personally choose the instruments to keep only the best ones.
  • Purchasing from the Kaiming manufacture, located near Beijing, also comes with a lot of advantages:
    • A very good price given the quality of the making.
    • A perfect stability of the instrument, since the climate is quite close to that of Europe.
  • The finish, setup, and adjustments are done by me in my workshop. They will bring out the best capacities of the instrument, in a way that respects your choices.
  • Very sought-after and renowned, this violin will keep its worth over time.
