Description
The chinrest key is an essential tool for any violinist or violist who wishes to have complete control over their accessories. Indeed, it allows the player to tighten or loosen the screws that exist on most chinrests of violins and violas. The chinrest key is not only useful when the screws get loose, it also allows the player to change by themselves any accessory.
Chinrest key for violin and viola
The tool is far from being required in the daily life of a musician. However, it is a great ally in some cases:
- firstly, if the chinrest starts sliding slightly or being wobbly, you can tighten the screws with the key,
- secondly, if you want to replace the chinrest by yourselves. The key is of great use to disassemble the first chinrest and to assemble and tighten the screws of the new one to keep it firmly in place.
This type of key has many advantages:
- first, it is easy to have in hand thanks to its handle,
- then, it has a quite universal use on most chinrests – except those by Wittner for which a screwdriver is enough,
- also, the key’s head is slightly angled so as to easily reach the screws through the holes,
- finally, it can be taken anywhere as a key ring or hanging from a strap.
As for choosing which key, there are two finishing touches to meet your assortment desires. In truth, it does not change much but if you wish, you can match your key with other accessories for your violin or viola.
Another difference worth noticing: the silver key is slightly longer and heavier, showing nearly 25g on the scale compared to 15g for the gold key.
