Wear the violin-maker apron for a few hours

The idea behind this discovery internship is above all to give you the opportunity to be in the shoes of a violin-maker for a few hours. Therefore, you can fully dive into the world of the workshop by handling all the tools, woods and materials I use daily.

Duration of the violin-making internship

The internship lasts for half a day, which is a total of three and a half hours (3h30).

  • In the morning from 9am to 12:30am
  • In the afternoon from 1:30pm to 5pm

What’s planned during a violin-making internship

Internship to discover the heart of violin-making
Learn how to ajust a violin soundpost.

To go into details, we’ll work on an important subject: assembling a violin. Thus, you’ll be able to handle an instrument on which you’ll carry out a complete assembly during the session. You will assemble all its fourteen pieces by my side and with my tips.

Finally, if you feel like it, you can also take home the instrument you have built yourself.

Assemble your own violin

Here are the different steps waiting for you to assemble your own instrument:

  • Measuring, determining and marking where each piece goes.
  • Installing and lubricating pegs.
  • Adjusting the soundpost inside the violin.
  • Installing the end button.
  • Securing the tailpiece and adjusters.
  • Progressively stringing the instrument and adjusting the bridge.
  • Controlling and lubricating where the strings go.
  • Tuning the violin and stabilising tension.

Goals of this internship to discover violin-making

Above all, it is an opportunity to share a special experience in the workshop. An atmosphere, sensations and discussions that will allow you to experience for a few hours the daily life of a craftsman at the service of musicians.

On the other hand, you will be actively involved in learning how to assemble an instrument that you can then play. This way, I hope to hand you the keys that will allow you to better understand the impact of the different pieces on the sound and tone of a violin.

Choose to keep your violin or not

At the end of the internship, you have the choice to keep or not the violin on which you worked on. This way you can enjoy playing your own instrument and the sound that you have developed yourself.

Violins that you will work on aren’t anything. They are Mirecourt Passion Traditionthat you can also find in my online shop. That’s why it could be interesting for you to keep it. However, you can also participe without leaving with your instrument.

A good gift idea for a violinist

Do you want to give an exceptional gift to a violinist? Why not give them the opportunity to spend a unique experience in my workshop to make their own instrument that they’ll later be able to play?
