Characteristics of the Kaiming Europe cello

What makes the series special is the use of the most renowned woods in violin-making: French Alps spruce and Bosnian maple wood.

A Guan Kaiming cello is entirely handcrafted, and it is extremely well-made. Each model is a unique piece completely handmade and varnished, in keeping with the European tradition.

As for the tonewood, the back, the ribs, and the neck are of a beautiful flame Bosnian marple. Each piece is carved from woods that have been fully seasoned, that is to say that has slowly dried for over 15 years. This process makes the pieces very stable, perfect for manufacturing very high-quality instruments.

The oil varnish is particularly remarkable as well: its design based on an antique model renders very well. Each instrument thus has a unique look and texture. Very smooth, the varnish allows the instrument to express all its tone and power.

The fingerboard and the fittings such as the pegs, the chinrest, and the buttons, are in fine ebony. Moreover, the carbon endpin makes the instrument lighter for travel. It doesn’t affect how the soundboard vibrates.

Only one model available

As of now, the only model available is a cello afterAntonio Stradivari. The shapes and archs display a rather bright and powerful sound, with great fullness of tone. The perfect piece for a soloist!

What your violin maker thinks about the Guan Kaiming Europe cello

This brand new series replace the previous one that was made of hundred-year-old woods. This time, the instruments are of authentic and prestigious European woods.

Once again, the work of Guan Kaiming displays both the sophistication and personality of handmade violin-making, and yet is still way more affordable. It’s a fine line between these instruments and actual work of arts. These instruments have proved themselves by now, and keep their worth over time.

What appeals to me the most is how unique each piece is. Each shape, each finish is a new telling of the great Stradivari templates the cello is made from. Finally, there is this special touch to the Guan Kaiming intruments, this dark, deep tone and yet a particular clarity.

This cello is a perfect match for the most advanced and demanding musicians.
