Characteristics of the kevlar violin tailpiece adjuster
This Kevlar tailgut is primarily made for violins. That is, its diameter and length are specially selected to suit the use on these instruments. Thus, it will be easy to install them on all the existing violin tailpieces on the market and will fit the diameter of all the holes. It is flexible and resistant thanks to its braid of 12 Kevlar filaments which can support up to 350kg of tension (there are about 25 on modern violins). In addition, this material is highly resistant to acid, oils and solvents.
- Tailpiece adjuster length: 250mm
- Diameter : 1,5mm
- Extension under tension: 1%.
Advantages
- Firstly, it is quite easy to install and requires very few tools.
- Then, its thinness allows to lower slightly the tailpiece, if the arch of your violin allows it. This can increase the tension of the strings and potentially its power.
- Finally, its very flexible structure allows a good contact with the tailpiece, even if the holes are not very clean and crooked. Thus, it can help to gain sound with its perfectly placed knot.
Luthier’s opinion on Kevlar tailpiece adjuster
The importance of the tailpiece is debatable, some will prefer one material over another. However, Kevlar is known for its strength and stability and will perform its function perfectly, which is why it has become the choice of many professionals. It may be worthwhile to experiment with your instrument if you are looking for more clarity and transmission.
You will find below a video presentation for its installation if you want to try to do the installation yourself. Of course, it is always better to have it done by someone qualified, but sometimes there is no choice.
