Description
A rubber violin mute is primarily a means of soundproofing your instrument. By placing it on the bridge, it allows you to reduce the sound of your instrument so that you can play at a lower volume. Thus, it is an affordable and convenient accessory for studying at any time of the day (and night).
Rubber mute for violin
As indicated in the name, the mute is entirely made of rubber. Not only does it provide enough pressure to muffle the vibrations, but also it doesn’t damage your bridge if you use it repeatedly. Furthermore, if it were to accidentally bounce about inside the case when travelling, it would have very little consequences.
First of all, this model provides very good muffling compared to other wooden or leather mutes. However, if you need an even lower volume, you can switch to a mute that combines rubber and lead.
If you want a very good sound even when it’s muffled, you can also check out Wmutes. These are actually mutes made of bronze and covered with precious metals. As a result, they provide excellent tone while offering impressive muffling.
Other uses of the mute
Personally, I also use the mute to secure the bridge when I ship violins. In fact, it locks the bridge under the strings to prevent it from falling off during delivery. In my experience, this method significantly reduces accidents, although it is not 100% effective. You can also reduce the chances of damage by wedging your cleaning cloth under your tailpiece.
