The lead mute for violin and viola

With its weight of 59g / 2,08oz it is one of the most effective mutes thanks to its imposing mass. It is in fact the use of lead which allows, thanks to its important mass, to limit the setting in vibration of the instrument.

Its comb shape allows it to be attached to the bridge by straddling the strings with its rubber-covered legs. However, it is important not to put too much pressure on the bridge during installation. This could force the bridge into the wrong position.

This model fits most 3/4, 7/8 and 4/4 violin bridges, but also adult size violas.

The advantages of this lead mute for violin and viola

  • Its attenuation is among the strongest on the market, so you can continue training without being heard.
  • It is also quite easy to install and does not damage the bridge like the usual metal mutes.
  • It can also be used as a paperweight so that your scores don’t fly off the desk.

The opinion of the violin maker

Generally, when you purchase an instrument, you want it to sound good so you can be heard. Yet, whether you are a beginner or a professional, you will surely find yourself in a situation where you need to train quietly. This is why this mute is an indispensable tool. By the way, I invite you to try it yourself and return the product if it does not suit you.

However, if you feel that your violin sounds better with the mute. It’s probably because you need an appointment with a luthier.

If you need less volume but still want to hear great quality, you can also try WMutes!
